NOTE FOR MR. P. SHEEHY
PROFESSOR C. G. CARO (IMPERIAL COLLEGE, LONDON)
I refer to my note dated the 17th June.
Dr. Thornton and Dr. Felton agree that Professor Caro's unit
at Imperial College has a good reputation for studies in a
difficult area related to physiological flow stu~ies, both of
gases (respiratory system) and liquids (vascular system).
(This explains the unusual siting of Professor Caro's unit
within the Department of Aeronautics.) They also believe that
the interests of the unit are relevant to the research aims
of some of the items in our current programme, e.~g. related
model systems for cardiovascular disease and smoke deposition
in animals and humans.
We hav~ some under-spenaing of the 1981 budget for contract
work in the area of biological science, and I recommend,
therefore, that Dr. Thornton arranges to meet Professor Caro
to see whether a mutually beneficial contract can be agreed.
If you wish, [ will follow this up directly with Professor Caro.
